DESCRIPTION: \nEnhancing Workplace Learning in Clinical Settings\nFostering
Learning-Rich Clinical Environments: A Week of Collaborative Intervention
s to Advance Workplace Learning\nThis proposal outlines a week-long initia
tive comprising interactive workshops and participant observations designe
d to strengthen workplace learning in clinical settings. The program is ai
med at clinical educators\, undergraduate students\, residents\, and inter
professional team members who contribute to shaping the hospital’s educati
onal culture. Grounded in evidence-informed strategies from health profess
ions education\, the initiative promotes collaborative\, reflective\, and
 context-sensitive learning approaches.\nLearning Goals\n\nDevelop a shared
understanding of workplace learning as a dynamic\, participatory\, and so
cially embedded process\, particularly from the perspective of faculty and
clinical supervisors. \nExamine and strengthen supervisory practices by e
xploring how guidance\, observation\, and structured reflection can be des
igned to maximize learning affordances for trainees. \nCritically reflect
on power\, identity\, and hierarchy by engaging mixed groups of faculty\,
residents\, and students in dialogue about psychological safety\, inclusio
n\, and exclusion in the clinical workplace.\nIdentify and document barrie
rs and enablers of psychological safety across different levels of the hos
pital community\, creating a collective foundation for institutional impro
vement.\nObserve and interpret local workplace learning practices to uncov
er hidden challenges and untapped opportunities for interprofessional coll
 aboration and inclusive education.\nCo-create actionable\, context-sensiti
ve strategies through collective synthesis of workshop outputs and observa
tion insights\, fostering feasible and sustainable improvements in the hos
pital’s learning culture.\n\nStructure\nThe program is structured as a pro
gressive and cumulative learning experience across five days. Workshops on
Days 1–4 are offered to different audiences to ensure broad participation
across the hospital\, while Day 5 integrates all insights through partici
pant observation and collaborative action planning.\nSchedule - Week of Wo
 rkplace Learning Interventions\n[toggle open='true' title='Day 1: Understa
 nding Workplace Learning - November 30\, 2026'] \n\n\n\nWorkshop: \nDesign
ing Effective Learning Spaces (Faculty & Clinical Supervisors – Group 1)\n
\n\n\n\n \nThis interactive workshop engages faculty and clinical supervis
ors in analyzing mechanisms of participatory learning and identifying lear
ning affordances across roles. Emphasis is placed on balancing individuali
zed learning needs with collective performance standards and on fostering
 adaptable\, inclusive\, interprofessional environments.\n\n\n\nLearning Ou
tcomes:\n\n\n\nAnalyze core mechanisms of participatory learning in clinic
al settings.\nRecognize the educational contributions of diverse professio
nal roles.\nBalance individualized learning trajectories with shared curri
 cular goals.\nDraft initial\, context-sensitive strategies for enhancing c
 linical learning environments.\n\n\n\n\n\n[/toggle]\n[toggle open='true' t

 \n\n\nWorkshop:\nReflecting on (Un)Safety in Workplace-Based Learning (Mix
 ed Group – Faculty/Residents/Students\, Group 1)\n\n\n\n\n \nUsing the Ric
 h Pictures method\, mixed groups of faculty\, supervisors\, residents\, an
d students reflect on their experiences of psychological safety and its ab
sence in clinical learning. Through dialogue\, participants surface how hi
erarchies\, identity\, and cultural norms shape inclusion and exclusion.\n
\n\n\nLearning Outcomes:\n\n• Reflect critically on how power and identity
shape learning relationships.• Use Rich Pictures to unpack experiences of
(un)safety.• Identify and document barriers and enablers of psychological
safety to inform institutional improvement efforts.\n\n\n\n[/toggle]\n[to

 ssion) - December 2\, 2026'] \n\n\n\nWorkshop:\nDesigning Effective Learni
ng Spaces (Faculty & Clinical Supervisors – Group 2)\n\n\n\n\n \nA second
run of the Day 1 workshop\, engaging additional faculty and supervisors to
ensure wide coverage across departments. Participants generate strategies
for strengthening the learning environment from the supervisory perspecti
 ve.\n\n\n\n[/toggle]\n[toggle open='true' title='Day 4: (Un)Safety in Lear

:\nReflecting on (Un)Safety in Workplace-Based Learning (Mixed Group – Fac
 ulty/Residents/Students\, Group 2)\n\n\n\n\n \n A second run of the Day 2
workshop\, engaging a different set of mixed participants. Additional barr
iers and enablers of psychological safety are identified and added to the
 collective “Safety Map.”\n\n\n\n[/toggle]\n[toggle open='true' title='Day

 ember 4\, 2026'] \n\n\n\n \nReflecting on (Un)Safety in Workplace-Based Le
 arning (Mixed Group – Faculty/Residents/Students\, Group 2)\n\n\n\n\nMorni
 ng: \nStructured Participant Observations\n\n\n \nMixed teams of faculty\,
residents\, and students conduct structured observations of clinical plac
ements. Observers focus on psychological safety and the educational afford
ances of daily practice.\n\n\nAfternoon:\nCollaborative Action Planning\n
\n\n \nAll stakeholders convene to synthesize outputs generated during the
week:• Prototype strategies from the Understanding Workplace Learning wor
kshops (Days 1 & 3).• Barriers and enablers identified in the (Un)Safety i
n Learning Relationships workshops (Days 2 & 4).• Insights from structured
clinical observations (Day 5 morning).\n\n\n \nThrough collaborative meth
ods\, participants align on a shared understanding of the hospital’s learn
ing culture\, prioritize challenges and opportunities\, and co-create feas
ible\, sustainable action plans for educational improvement.\n\n\n\nLearni
ng Outcomes:\n\n• Align a shared vision of the hospital’s learning culture
across stakeholder groups.• Prioritize the most pressing challenges and o
 pportunities for workplace learning.• Co-create feasible\, context-sensiti
ve\, and sustainable strategies for educational improvement.\n\n\n\n[/togg
